Most of the glass get scratches due to the poor quality of glass material and hence, the surface quality of the glass will have a direct effect on the possibility of scratching the glass. Low-quality glass has fabricating debris amalgamated to its surface while cleaning it is more likely to drag across the glass surface resulting in scratches.
Glass resurface refers to the technique that targets damages found on glass. Glass restoration technology has been around 3 decades but only recently it has been perfected with unimaginable results. Most of the glass resurfacing companies will follow the same technique to repair the glass damage as they would pane with cracks and scratches.
Glass scratch damage can be classified into 3 types of damages: light surface scratch, surface damage, and deep scratches. Light surface damages can be identified by crossing the fingers upon the damage in a glass, if you are unable to feel anything then it would be considered as slight damage. Such damages can be caused by poor maintenance and are almost incidental. Surface damage can be felt with your fingernail and this will not stop your fingers passing over the scratch, this will be caused by window scrapers, poor installation and high abrasives. If the scratch is too deep, then while you run your fingernails over the glass the nails will be stuck inside the crack. This is generally known as deep scratches, the cause may be due to vandalism, contact of rock or any kind of etching tool.
If a glass surface has a deep scratch, it is suggested to use a solution of white vinegar and ground mustard seed. Ground mustard seed is easily available at grocery stores. While making the paste of vinegar with mustard seed, more care should be taken off. Mix a few drops of vinegar with 1 tablespoon of mustard seed. Always remember that you need a paste form and hence, add few drops of vinegar only. Now, apply the paste on the scratch and allow it to spread on the entire scratch.
Sometimes, if the glass surface got deep scratch which is difficult to remove such scratch, it is better to go for an option of glass resurfacing. You can even buy a glass repair kit, which is specially designed to remove the scratches. Such a repair kit is easily available at the auto repair shops. Using such kit also, remove the scratches or give to professional glass repair shops to repair the glass surface which is damaged too deep with scratches.
